A LITTLE ABOUT LINDA
Linda McRae is a Canadian, US based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has built a following through amazing albums and a tireless (international) tour schedule. Performing on banjo, guitar and accordion her warm and world-weary voice, unforgettable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, make McRae a captivating and sought-after artist. Linda has performed in venues as diverse as Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre and New Folsom Prison, where she performs and facilitates writing workshops for the inmates. These experiences lead to the creation of her Express Yourself Writing Workshops currently being presented in detox centres, alternative schools, and youth and adult correctional facilities across North America.
"One song breaks your heart, the next one puts it back together" (Fernando Pinto: Promoter, Oddball Events)

Shadow trails reviews
John Apice, No Depression Shadow Trails There is a Linda McRae sound. This Linda McRae sounds like it’s a bottle of wine that has been hidden in a cool damp cellar for 75 years and only recently was uncorked. ”Can You Hear Me Calling” sounds like something The Rolling Stones could sing now, today -- if Leonard Cohen was their lyricist.
The Montreal Gazette/Folk Roots and Branches Shadow Trails, a genre blending new album includes some of her best work.
Mike Sadava, Penguin Eggs Magazine
She keeps cranking out great songs, and she’s never sounded better. Great grooves and some killer playing. In three words, this album kicks.
Alexander Varty, The Georgia Straight
It’s a wiry, charged record and it finds McRae telling stories that have risen from the streets, from prison cells, and from her own generous heart.
Tom Harrison, The Vancouver Sun
Shadow Trails is her best album, an aware mix of folk, country, and southern-influence rock, old style and modern, diverse yet cohesive. She confidently is mining a rich seam. Shadow Trails also is the voice of someone who has lived and learned.
Lesley Mitchell-Clarke - Pot Pourri
The music here is unflaggingly authentic, deeply satisfying, refreshingly acoustic and imbued with a big dose of soul and a skilled musicality. This standout recording is a consciousness-raising journey through a challenging emotional landscape that also embraces hope and redemption.
What They're saying!
"When all the trends fade and become dated, and all the music from the cutting edge becomes dull, Linda McRae will continue to stand tall, singing and playing music with honest soul and humility, cutting through the fog with her timeless clarity. Linda is one of the true, soulful pioneers of honest roots music. Her singing and playing brings honor to her heroes and to her friends and fans." Colin Linden (Bruce Cockburn, Emmy Lou Harris, Alison Krauss/Robert Plant, Bob Dylan).
"Linda's absolute love of traditional roots music runs deep down into the Appalachian dirt, and it shows in everything she does. Total commitment! And now she's playin' the clawhammer banjo! Gotta love it!" Gurf Morlix (Slaid Cleaves, Mary Gauthier, Ray Wylile Hubbard, Lucinda Williams)
"We were knocked out when we first heard Linda sing. She knows how to get far below just performing a song and into singing it from her heart and soul. You just know right away that this is a woman you'd like to get to know better." Ginny Hawker and Tracy Schwarz, (The New Lost City Ramblers, Hazel Dickens)
"Linda's music intrigues like a sepia postcard from the past, but is vibrant and alive and very much of the present. The singing and playing are just right. And that is a great accomplishment indeed." Eddie Schwartz (The Doobie Brothers, Paul Carrack, Rita Coolidge)
Linda McRae offers up solid songwriting, an honest and engaging stage presence, and multi-instrumental magic. She was without a doubt this jaded music lover's favorite "new artist" discovery at SXSW.
