Linda McRae: MUSIC/LYRICS/VIDEO
Living in the Past With You
Stephen Nikleva who plays mandolin and guitar on this recording and I were sitting in my living room back in Vancouver, BC Canada writing. Stephen played this beautiful piece of music on the guitar and looked around my living room and said "I'm living in the past with you"...I collect a lot of old cowboy paraphanalia and trashy velvet paintings, etc. I'm a bit of a thrift store nut. We wrote this song that afternoon.
LIVING IN THE PAST WITH YOU
Pioneer ways and hard luck days
Told in mountain songs
Cowboys ride across desert skies
Here upon my walls
I live in your rhythm and rhyme
All alone and out of time
Living in the past with you
Where sweet voices through time ring true
Melodies so old they seem new
Living in the past with you
Steel guitars in basement bars
Many years ago
Where western suits and cowboy boots
Once stomped across the floor
On dusty shelves they wait
Out of fashion out of date
Living in the past with you
Where sweet voices through time ring true
Melodies so old they seem new
Living in the past with you
Players in blood and in name
Loners with fortune and fame
Live in this room here with me
And forever more I’ll be
Living in the past with you
Where sweet voices through time ring true
Melodies so old they seem new
Living in the past with you
