Linda McRae: MUSIC/LYRICS/VIDEO

This Winding Road

(Linda McRae)

Mark L'Esperance and I produced this CD. I had worked with Mark before when I played bass and sang with Western Swing outfit The Knotty Pines. He did a great job and I liked his musicality. He's also worked with Po'Girl, the late great Ray Condo, Headwater, etc.

My mom and dad were big country music fans. They loved Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, the good stuff. There were always folks around our house playing music on the weekends. My mom and dad are a big reason why I play music.

THIS WINDING ROAD

This winding road has carried many a mighty load

From Knoxville up to Hudson’s Bay

Old touring cars, honky-tonks and bars

Some got lost some found along the way

They traveled light, hard and fast both day and night

Songs of love and songs of hate

Laying tracks, Hank please come on back

Tell me what was it like in your day

Times were lean winter winds blew hard and mean

Hound dogs gnawing at your bones

Drink and drugs June said, “John better shut him up

ain’t it time you sent that dog back home?”

CH

Fancy cars, record men with fat cigars

Careers like cattle bought and sold

Ms. Wynette threw away her safety net

When they promised her rainbows and pots of gold

This winding road has carried a mighty load

Borders crossed along the way

Old touring cars and honky-tonk songs

Echo down this old highway

Echo down as I roll down this highway
